  2. Isabel Allende was born in Lima, Peru and after her parents divorced she lived with her mother and her grandparents. When she was younger she worked as a secretary and then a journalist. Her uncle was Salvador Allende and he was the president of Chile. Salvador Allende was assassinated in 1973 and after this Isabel and her family had to move the the safety of Venzuela. In this exile was when she started writing The House of the Spirits, which is her first novel. Many of her novels are based on her own life and experiences. Many of the books just like House of the Spirtis mixes myth and realism together. Her novels also focus on the experience of women. One of her most famous novels Paula, is about the extended coma and death of her daughter in 1992.

  5. In addition to what Elisabeth had already said, Isabel Allende was called a mythomaniac by her step-father. This inspired her to write the book, Paula, a memoir. She was anticipated to write only the truth since she was called a liar. Allende viewed life at a different angle. Even today she claims that she writes realistic fiction when others categorize it as magic realism.
